The University of Windsor’s Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, in the Faculty of Engineering invites applications for tenure-track position, at the rank of Assistant Professor in the field of Geotechnical Engineering, commencing July 1, 2023. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

The successful applicant will join the 19 new and established faculty members in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE), a small department with a high degree of student-faculty interaction.

Applicants are expected to have Bachelors and Doctorate degrees in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field, such that their core competency is in Geotechnical Engineering or Soil Mechanics. The successful applicant will have an opportunity to develop their teaching skills, initiate their own research program, and develop personally as well as professionally. If you are the successful applicant, you will eventually be teaching undergraduate Geotechnical Engineering and Foundation Design courses, possibly general engineering courses, and a graduate course in your field of specialization. As some of the above-mentioned undergraduate courses have engineering design content, you are expected to obtain professional licensure (P.Eng.) as soon as possible, but in any case, before obtaining tenure. You will also be required to develop an independent research program including attracting funding, recruiting students and setting up a research laboratory. In this aspect, grant proof-reading services and start-up funding is available. The CEE Search Committee will consider recent PhD graduates on an equal basis as others.

• a letter of application, including a statement confirming eligibility to work in Canada, (2-3 pages);
• a detailed and current curriculum vitae;
• your EIT/P.Eng. status, and a description of your anticipated path to the P.Eng., if you do not have it (up to one page);
• a statement of commitment to Equity, Diversity, Inclusion, and Decolonization (up to 1 page);
• a reflection on your prior teaching experience, which may include having been a teaching/graduate assistant (up to two pages);
• a teaching dossier or portfolio demonstrating potential for or evidence of teaching effectiveness and excellence that may include sample course syllabi/outlines, teaching evaluations, and a statement of teaching philosophy and interests;
• a list of University of Windsor courses in Civil Engineering (CIVL) and General Engineering (GENG) that you feel competent to teach (up to two pages). See UWindsor calendars;
• a description of how you would develop a research program in your field, including how you would foster diversity (up to three pages);
• copies of your two best published papers, and a description (up to two pages) of why you are particularly proud of this work; and
• a description of past and/or current service activities, which may involve community organizations (up to two pages).
