Department Summary
The Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Alberta is a joint department between the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. Our department is at the forefront of one of the most rewarding areas of engineering, applying the theory and methods of engineering to medicine. Research in the department is highly interdisciplinary across a wide range of biomedical engineering fields including biomaterials, biosensing, magnetic resonance imaging, biomechanics, computational modeling, medical robotics, advanced prosthetics, rehabilitation engineering, and many others. We work closely and enjoy long-standing partnerships with departments in the Faculties of Medicine and Dentistry, Engineering, Science, and Rehabilitation Medicine.
Management of the department has recently transitioned to the Faculty of Engineering. At this exciting time, we are seeking a Department Chair to lead our team through this unique period of transition and growth. The Department currently offers research opportunities and courses leading to MSc and PhD degrees and presently has an enrolment of 34 graduate students. With a newly developed course-based MSc and plans for expanded course, program, and research offerings, we are looking to significantly increase the number of faculty, staff, and students in our Department. A key member of our team, the Department Chair will help realize and achieve our teaching and research goals. More information is available at www.uab.ca/biomed.
