WISEatlantic Update - Spring 2019

The NSERC Women in Science and Engineering – Atlantic Region Program (WISEatlantic), chaired by Dr. Tamara Franz-Odendaal at Mount Saint Vincent University (the Mount) in Halifax, NS, has had a busy Fall/Winter and is set to have just as busy of a Spring!

On March 8th, International Women’s Day, WISEatlantic hosted a role model session at the Mount’s annual Girls Conference. On March 23rd WISEatlantic hosted the first Girls Get WISE Science Retreat for girls in grades 7-10 at St. FX university, and on April 13th hosted the annual Girls Get WISE Science Retreat at the Mount. Another role model session for junior high girls took place as part of Skills Canada Nova Scotia’s Skilled Futures for Women event at Acadia University on April 26th.

WISEatlantic is also planning the biennial Atlantic ConnecTions Conference for Women in SETT, an official CCWESTT regional conference, which is taking place on May 30 & 31. Other events in the pipeline are the Junior and Senior Girls Get WISE Summer Science Camps, Junior camp from July 15-19 and Senior camp August 12-15. Camps take place at the Mount.
