YWCA Cambridge's STEM GYRLS Mini-Con

By: YMCA Cambridge

For the last 4 years, YWCA Cambridge's have planned an event called the STEM GYRLS Mini-Con. They are a non-profit organization, that strives to provide all of their programming and events to participants for free, barrier-free. All programming that they offer is participant led; they look to the youth they serve to inform what they provide.

The STEM GYRLS Mini-Con was created 4 years ago, when they were hearing from our participants that they wished there was an all girls 'career day' style event that was all science, tech, engineering and math. There were lots of STEM based fairs in the KW/Cambridge community, but at the time, none for girls specifically.

The event has since morphed into a safe space for cis girls, trans girls, non-binary youth and their families to experience STEM activities together, and learn about various careers, led by cis women, trans women and non-binary folks in their communities.

YMCA Cambridge is always looking for folks who align with our vision to be a part of the event in some way; the event is set up like a science fair, with companies and organizations setting up activities for youth and their families to come through and try. If you have a local representative who could attend with an activity of some kind, they would love to have them!

Date: September 21st, 2019 from 1:00pm-4:00pm.
